Saves & progression
Keep your progress when you stop playing
In the PC Demo, the developer says the game saves when you exit and resumes from the same moment. That is different from choosing an older manual save: the October 24 answer says separate save slots are unavailable and checkpoint loading exists. Do not start a new game expecting a second independent slot.

Choose what you are trying to preserve
| Your goal | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|
| Stop a session and carry on later | The developer’s exit-save/resume behavior. |
| Undo a failed experiment | Checkpoint loading is mentioned, but no user-managed list of earlier save slots. |
| Keep items outside your inventory | Manor chest storage is a separate storage question. |
| Carry a character into the full game | A dated transfer statement and achievement warning; not a tested release procedure. |
Before ending a session
- Use the game’s normal exit flow. The source covers exiting the game; it does not establish that a crash, forced process termination or power loss saves safely.
- Let the game finish closing before reopening it. Do not use New Game as a way to resume an existing character.
- On return, compare the resumed character and location with the session you ended. This is a check of your own run, not a claim that we tested persistence.
Checkpoint is not a manual save archive
The developer offers checkpoint loading as a recovery feature, while explicitly ruling out separate save slots. The reply does not document the exact checkpoint trigger, menu path or how far it rewinds. We therefore do not promise a checkpoint before every fight, a keyboard quicksave or a way to select any historical moment.
Read this before starting over on 1.06
Version 1.06 describes a one-time old-save intro problem and a different New Game spawn outside the fortress. Use the outside-fortress and intro decision guide to identify your case. Neither is a reason to delete the only copy of your progress. The cutscene instructions are not a general save repair or proof of full-game transfer.
If the resumed progress is wrong
Do not overwrite the only copy by starting another character to “test” it. Note the displayed build, Demo/full edition, how you exited and exactly what changed. Compare with the source discussion and report those details through the game’s Steam discussions yourself. A missing intro character covered by 1.06 is different from a missing or rolled-back save; no universal recovery method is established here.
You have the right save plan when…
You can distinguish continuing the present run from rewinding it. Normal exit is the documented preservation route; independent manual rollback slots are not a supported promise.
Sources & version
Source-based explanation; no independent gameplay or file-transfer test. Original source dates retain their scope. Later notes establish the changes they explicitly describe; silence is not proof that every mechanic stayed identical.
