Exploration & looting
Separate a chest that will not open from one that is empty
For a chest that does not interact, try approaching its front closely. An October 18 Demo player reported that side approach could leave the character outside the usable interaction distance. This is a dated player diagnostic, not a verified fix for every chest. An interface that opens but contains no new loot is a different branch.

Which result are you getting?
| Observed result | Next check |
|---|---|
| No prompt or container interface | Approach position, distance and current interaction prompt. |
| Interface opens, no new loot | Raid chest, replay completion and the 1.04 refill rule. |
| A deposited item is missing | Was this an estate storage chest, and did the whole run resume correctly? |
| Focus or confirm action fails on a gamepad | The inventory/device branch, rather than assuming all chest contents are gone. |
Try one bounded interaction check
- Identify the chest you intend to use and whether it is in the manor or a combat location.
- Move to its front and approach closely, following the player-reported case.
- Use the interaction shown by your current build/input device; compare whether the prompt or container interface appears.
- If it opens, inspect the contents before diagnosing a persistence problem. Opening successfully is not a promise of a particular reward.
If it opens but is empty
Update 1.04 adds random items to empty chests on repeat location runs. If they do not appear immediately, the note says to complete the location and check subsequent runs. That rule concerns repeat-location loot, not refilling your own estate storage or guaranteeing a rare item. Use the full replay explanation for that goal.
If the front approach still does nothing
Record the build, exact chest/location, device, prompt and observed result. A “Take All” hotkey was suggested in another October thread; an appreciative developer response did not establish a default binding. Do not invent Space as the current action, replace saves or reinstall on that evidence.
The chest task is complete when…
You opened the intended interface or isolated the failed interaction. An empty repeat-run chest, a missing stored item and a device-confirmation problem each have a specific onward route.
