Read Fire Wave damage without mixing levels or systems

Evidence checked November 3, 2026 (Pacific) · PC Demo and announced release; original source dates retained

The short answer

The developer’s October 26 example separates the initial hit from burning: at level one, a hit of 30 plus 2 damage per second for 5 seconds. If all five seconds apply, that example totals 40. It is a dated explanation, not a freshly tested 1.06 damage guarantee or a best-build recommendation.

FieldHow to interpret the source
Hit versus burnDo not count a total damage description as the hit plus that same total again. Separate direct damage and ticks.
DurationThe player questioned effect duration versus a persistent area; the reply explains burning, not every spell’s area behavior.
DistanceThe developer says distance is in meters.
Level and cooldownThe player suspected upgrade-screen/current-level differences. That suspicion is not a confirmed universal UI rule.

A learned skill is not the same as a magic weapon

The player compared their Fire Wave/Freeze skill setup with a mana-consuming magic weapon. The developer describes magic weaponry as an additional, temporary option for suitable situations and says the stats would be reconsidered. Do not copy one player’s mana pool, regeneration timing or cost into every character’s build. Version 1.06 also introduces stamina, so an older melee-versus-magic comparison does not settle the present balance.

Make a like-for-like comparison

  1. Note the edition/build and the exact skill or equipped magic item.
  2. Record its learned level and the screen you are reading: an upgrade preview may not be the same observation as an actual cast.
  3. Separate immediate damage, timed effects, distance, cooldown and any displayed mana cost.
  4. If you test your own setup, compare the same action at the same level and keep the observation separate from the developer’s historical example.

Where Fire Wave and upgrades fit

Update 1.01 gives players Fire Wave at the start and makes the manor’s Circle of Knowledge initially available. This does not establish a full spell roster or an optimal unlock order. For the Demo boundary use the level-cap guide; for a depleted mana supply use the potion checks.

Your comparison is meaningful when…

You know the level, source date and system being compared. A reported mismatch is useful only when the displayed values and observed action refer to the same thing.

Sources & version

Source-based explanation; no independent gameplay or file-transfer test. Original source dates retain their scope. Later notes establish the changes they explicitly describe; silence is not proof that every mechanic stayed identical.
