Read the bonus as well as the rune’s name
Do not assume every same-name rune adds the same value. In an October 20 Demo report, a player found weapon and armor runes with matching names but different bonuses, including +1, +2 and +3. Their first insertion order had misleadingly looked like a universal +1 increase. This is a player’s observed case, not a complete current rune-stat database.

Compare the actual candidates before socketing
- Identify whether the candidate is intended for the item type you are considering; the report distinguishes weapon and armor runes.
- Read each actual card’s bonus and affected statistic. The matching name alone is not the comparison.
- Compare the candidates against the same intended item/statistic; a larger number for another statistic does not automatically make a better choice.
- Inspect the current socketing prompt before confirming. No universal price, stacking formula or full compatibility table was established by the report.
Use the reported numbers as a warning, not a recipe
| Observation | Useful decision |
|---|---|
| Same name, different displayed bonus | Compare the value and statistic, not the label alone. |
| A first sequence appeared to add +1 each time | Do not generalize from insertion order to every rune. |
| Your build shows a different card or value | Record that exact current card; the October sample is not a guaranteed drop list. |
Replacing a choice can cost the old rune
Update 1.04 explicitly says removing a socketed rune destroys it. Choosing first and planning to recover it later is therefore unsafe as an assumption. Read the removal decision before clearing a valuable socket. This does not establish what every deconstruction operation returns or whether a cosmetic appearance is retained.
If the card does not answer the comparison
Keep the gear intact and note the rune/item names, displayed fields and build. Version 1.05 changes materials and recipes; silence about a specific rune is not proof that every October value remained unchanged. This page helps interpret a comparison, rather than promising an optimal build or asking you to sacrifice a useful item to discover the rule.
The rune choice is deliberate when…
You know the actual displayed bonus, statistic and intended equipment, and understand the documented loss if you later remove it. A shared name is not your only evidence.

Source-based explanation; no independent gameplay or file-transfer test. Original source dates retain their scope. Later notes establish the changes they explicitly describe; silence is not proof that every mechanic stayed identical.
